LPC, EMDR Therapist

Amanda (Nikki) Tillman is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and minor in Human Development and Family Science from The Ohio State University and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary. She also has training in EMDR.

Nikki’s background includes providing psychotherapy to clients ages 18 or older, mostly using a trauma-informed, mindfulness-based approach. Nikki is most passionate about trauma care relating to childhood, past traumatic experiences, and attachment concerns; and aids to connect present dysfunctional behavior and cognitions to learned behaviors and cognitions. Nikki also has competencies and experience in working with clients struggling with anxiety, women’s concerns, grief, depression, dissociation, ramifications from sexual abuse, boundary issues, cultural issues, and communication and conflict.

Nikki’s foundational pillars when counseling are empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruency, and uses these to actively listen and psychoeducate about useful tools to help cope with life situations and struggles. One of her favorite therapeutic interventions is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and was trained through EMDR Chicago. She uses it to target negative cognitions and symptoms related to trauma, anxiety, phobias, and depression. Nikki strives to create a safe, non-judgmental environment for each of her clients. She aims to be an ally for all walks of life and is committed to being a life-long learner and advocate regarding anti-racism and anti-oppression. She loves to empower and advocate for her clients, and often practices identifying feelings, advocacy skills, self-compassion, and honoring skills with client to do so. She is a Christian Counselor and willing and able to incorporate any and all spirituality into the counseling practice.

Nikki believes that the client is in the ‘driver’s seat’ and the counselor is in the ‘passenger’s’. She wants her clients to feel like they have power in their session, and for the process to be collaborative. She believes each client is geared toward growth and healing, and the counseling process can be a tool to aim for their goals and live a more authentic lifestyle. Nikki looks forward to partnering with you!

In Nikki’s free time, she loves to travel, walk/hike, practice yoga, read, watch a good show/movie, and be with loved ones.
